2021 NSDA Nationals Topics Officially Released

The National Speech and Debate Association has officially released the topic areas for both Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas Debate. Debaters attending the NSDA 2021 Nationals Tournament will be competing on the resolutions:

Lincoln-Douglas Debate:
Resolved: A public health emergency justifies limiting civil liberties.

Public Forum Debate:
Resolved: In the United States, social media is beneficial for democratic values.

For the Lincoln Douglas topic, the vote breakdown included 634 coaches as well as 819 student votes. The winning resolution received both 39% of the coach vote and 39% of the student vote. The topic won out over the two other options, “Resolved: Sin taxes are unjust.” and “Resolved: A wealth tax is just.”

For the Public Forum topic, the vote breakdown included 637 coach votes and 968 student votes. The winning resolution received 55% of the coach votes and 43% of the student votes. The topic won out over the other option, “Resolved: The United States federal government should no longer apply Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to Big Tech.”
